Choosing a crib - one of your first decisions when decorating a baby nursery

You have just learned that you are going to become parents, panic sets in as you realize you must now begin to furnish and decorate a baby nursery, what
do I need, what do I look for, and where to find what I want? The crib is one of the first pieces of furniture that you will decide on, and there are many varieties for you to choose from. Here we hope are some helpful hints to help you find that perfect crib for your newborn.

Some important things to remember when purchasing that crib are that it is easy assemble, the finishes must be non-toxic, and it should include the all important plastic railings. The best crib should be sturdy and durable and should be safe, many cribs meet the North American safety standards.  With certain cribs the mattress is included but check to make sure.  The mattress you purchase must be stain resistant, waterproof and for many non-allergenic.

Prices range from inexpensive to extravagant.  You can have a simple crib or a beautiful hand painted crib imported from Italy.  And as prices vary so do the styles from which you have to choose.  Some of these styles include;

  • The standard rectangular crib,
  • The convertible crib that converts to a toddler bed or the three in one, that converts into the toddler bed and then into a youth bed,
  • A round crib - if you want your crib to be the main focal point of the room,
  • A corner crib which fits into a corner for those with very little space for the crib and
  • The portable crib for those times that you need to travel with baby.

When choosing your crib consider your decor and choose a crib that is stylish and colorful but will fit into the family budget.
